Never fooled by Verizon. $120 is the initial price. After one or two year, the price will increase to more than $200. Plus, you will not get $300 gift card, may be a half of that amount.

It is not so simple. $800 is maximum they cover any remaining balance to old carrier (not for everyone). Also new IPhone credit is split over 2 years, so you cannot keep the phone only after 3 months. //@anonymous: use tmobile to buy yourself out in 3 months. They ask me to sign up for a new line as they said the previous deal expired then charge me both lines for a few months. I am stuck with them and feeling like being scammed. If you keep 128 g, the sale tax is still around 120, and you pay 31 each month with trade in of old phone. And 36 without trade in.

$5,300+ commitment (including the activation fees) is a bit too much. I would rather be on the lookout for deals with the MVNOs like Mint, USM, Boost, or H2O. My friend has USM unlimited data (10 gigs 5G) Verizon (no data downgrade) connection for $180 a year incl tax.
