If they broke on the second day they are under warranty. If broke 5 years later without being worn and sitting in their orignal packaging they shouldn't have been bought in the first place. The shoes are doing you a favor by having you throw them out at that point.

At first I thought only the low-end ECCO shoes that cost less than $150 had problems, but then several pairs of shoes that cost around $200 also had broken soles. Some of these fell off completely, and more of these fell on the carpet like dried mud. I wear shoes very carefully. When the season changes, I wipe all the shoes I don't wear and put them in the original packaging. I admit that many shoes here are more than 5 years old, but what I don't understand is how shoes can break faster than socks? Even Adidas and Nike shoes that cost only dozens of dollars don't have this problem that brand new shoes that have never been worn broke on the second day.

My own experience, as well as many complaints online, is that ECCO shoes suddenly degrade and fall off like mud after a while. ECCO has now changed its previous commitment to replace these early problematic shoes to 1 year.
