all label printers use thermal transfer technology, no ink/toner consumption at all, the thermal transfer has the advantage of low consumable cost and fast printing, but the downside is considerably low printing resolution. And the thermal mechanism dominated most of its cost. This dual printer model should be used in a fast pace environment like takeout counter to double printer efficiency and at this price point, this one is unbeatable //@Anonymous: Market share? Bought this at work. Two hudge disappointments: 1. software compability. Even my LG 34 inch monitor can't display properly and needs a driver, which is not avaiable. A lot other softwares (printer, etc.) need way too much attention 2. Surface pen does not work, even though this is a touch screen.
