If 256G was not a single module like M1 Air, this is a great choice, but since it is not, go either m1 air or m1 pro, depending on your needs. I got both, one for my daughter and one for me, and yes, I tried M2 256G and M2 512G, but the former is slow, the latter is too expensive compared to its capability.

1), M1 is super fast with no heat. 2), Mac is very efficient in using memory. I am a programmer converted from PC to MAC ~ 10 years ago, never look back. Of course, I bought a MacBook Pro, but I got a M1 MacBook Air for my son, he is very happy about it.

Previous gen M1 processors are a better value and should be more than sufficient for 70-80% of all users. If anything, Apple has bad marketing. No professional user is going to buy the MB with low specs, and no average user is going to spend $1.2K+ on it either. They should have significantly lowered the price, or not have an option with 8GB RAM/256GB storage.

I reported the issue to Amazon customer service, and a representative contacted the seller on my behalf. The seller then initiated a return process and also told me that they had already shipped a replacement, which I should receive in 3–5 days. However, I waited for more than a week and the replacement never arrived. As a result, I shipped the glue stick back at my own expense and provided the tracking number to the seller. 1)App compatibility issue, you have to use Rosetta2 for most software. 2)Unified memory architecture causes extremely excessive rewriting on SSD which is soldered and irreplaceable. //@sza: Don't be the beta testers.
