It is more than enough for me. Why would you store all your files on your laptop instead of a safer external drive or on the cloud? The modern way is not to keep everything on your laptop. The $699 ones on Amazon aren't the newest ones, the new ones come with Intel UHD 617 graphics chip (apple.com) the ones on Amazon are listed as having Intel HD graphics 3000 which is an older chip. Also, they do not specifically state the intel processor generation, and have a 1.8 Ghz i5. The 8th gen from Intel the new Airs have are 1.6 Ghz, so the $699s are not latest gen
