The Craftsman stud finder (CMHT77633) is only $7.48 and gets (slightly) better reviews, and a lot more of them. I have one and it works really well. On the other hand, I previously had a Stanley stud finder and wow, it felt like that was a prank -- it would seriously beep at random and could not reliably identify studs at all.

I have the Franklin M70. It has multiple LEDs so it helps you confirm you are somewhere in the middle of the stud with some width on either side.
