It is not necessarily correct as you are marking at least two assumptions: electricity is produced only from fuel and efficiency of making electricity from fuel is the same or worse than the car using fuel. //@anonymous: I would say Electric car even worse in terms of energy efficiency. Why? To use electric car, you will first need convert fuel to electricity in the plant, then charge to the car battery, while for gas cars, fuel has been converted into electricity directly, only one step. Make sense?

Centralized electricity generation and distribution is always way more efficient.

Imagine running a gas powered generator in every home versus receiving energy from the grid that generates electricity centrally and distributes. //@anonymous: I would say Electric car even worse in terms of energy efficiency. Why? To use electric car, you will first need convert fuel to electricity in the plant, then charge to the car battery, while for gas cars, fuel has been converted into electricity directly, only one step. Tesla is over priced. May be worth $23000, not $42000.Do the math. This is not going to save money. Zero pollution is a gimmick. Electricity to charge is generated at a plant which pollute the environment.

According to the IRS 2020 data, among the 164M tax filings, only a few million filers have AGI above $300K, adding the single filer with AGI >$150K etc it's barely 10M. However there are another ~130M filers with income so low that their tax obligation before any tax credit will be lower than $7500. Less than 30M filers are eligible to full $7500 tax benefit if they don't have any other non-refundable tax credit (but most of them have other credit like education cost etc). So only ~10M filers are eligible to the full EV tax credit, with another 30-40M can have most of the credit. //@Anonymous: dude, it's so easy for a young developer to get 300k/y after 3-year graduation //@anonymous: These comments are dumb. Went to a dealership and verify the car paint is bad like everyone else says, it even have a dent on the body (outward dent - must be from factory), inside is very bland, heard the ride is not enjoyable as well. No wonder they said the quality and reliability is poor. //@Anonymous: Go test drive and decide for yourself. Do not go by opinions of morons who spill nonsense on the internet.

By anonymous on 06/04/2023, 11:14 AM EDT
The prime is definitely much better than Model 3. Similarly powered, no worry about range, and much better build quality. The only problem is that Toyota can't build them in the US and can't build enough of them //@Anonymous: In am in no way promoting Tesla but to compare it against Corolla hybrid is unfair. You should at least compare it against Prius or Prius prime, which would cost between 33k to 40k depending on the trim //@anonymous: 40250 - 7500 (tax credit) + 1500 (charger installation) = 34k+ for a small car with questionable reliability and spartan interior. Enhanced Auto Pilot that comes with some cool features is an extra 6k. If you drive less than 10k miles per years it will take forever to make up for the $10k difference between Model 3 and a Corolla Hybrid.

Cosco doesn't exist in many states. Some areas have BJs Club only or Sams Club only. //@anonymous: Why would that be a huge issue? I assume most people here have Costco membership… //@anonymous: Once I heard you can’t even change your own tire, you have to call them, I was out!

Can't say anything good or bad for the car, as I don't have one. However, I would jump in and buy one if I can get the tax credit. I have solar for my house, so it is an easy choice. The pure reason why I don't buy one yet - it hurts my feeling that the government is treating me differently despite of sizable taxes I paid! Work hard and achieve my financial goal shouldn't be an excuse to penalize.

Some weird and nonsense comments here. No one seems to have driven a Tesla or owned it when they compare Tesla with cheap, low end cars like Kia, Corolla or Bolt. I own a 2023 Tesla model 3, got it in March and I really love it. Great car and technology! Superb acceleration, range, audio system etc.

Teslas drive like an oversized golf cart. There is NO handling!

I tested drove them all and the EV models from any real car company beats Tesla hands down. And many provides advanced assistive driving features for free. (Not like the Tesla scam artist charges a fortune for the same stuff. Actually the so called FSD is worse than some of the features on the GM Ford or VW EVs) //@anonymous: regenerative brake applied all time, my wife rejected tesla as a passenger due to motion sickness. It takes some adjustment to get use to driving and test drive went terrible.

I've had 3 priuses, bought each of them new, 05, 10 and 16, now I have a 2023 Bolt EUV. Never had any battery problem with any of them, I tend to keep them for 10 years 125kish miles. Instructions unclear. Purchased BMW i3. //@anonymous: Tesla is the worst car ever. Only nightmares after I got one last year.

Rattles everywhere, bad workmanship, unaligned panels. Road noise loud like a tractor from 1940s, poor suspension your ass will feel every single pot hole on the road. FSD is the biggest scam of them all.

Don’t listen to the paid trolls. Avoid at all costs. Get a VW Ford or Hyndai KIA EV you will thank me.

You've gotten unlucky or have a old model. I know atleast 50-60 people who have 2021 or newer. Very minor issues and road noise is way better due to double insulated windows. Tax is applied from where you register your car and not where you made the purchase.

//@Anonymous: In some states, sales tax is waived on EV. That can add to the equation on saving + some states has individual incentive as well.
