I guess it’s because that you can return the phone within 30 days without penalty. After the required 1 month of service, you have to fulfill the installment plan or pay the remaining price of the phone. //@anonymous: Why it said 1st month of service required only?

For AT&T you should use their Very Expensive Unlimited Plan For 3 Years… if you cancel before 3 yr you have to pay the remaining phone price. Buying the full priced iPhone and choosing low cost plan is even >$1000 cheaper after 3 yr usage by simple math

At one of the step says can't confirm my address and ask me to go to walmart store instead (the price starts Friday 6 am if in store), I am not going to rush with black friday crowd.
