It is used on stainless steel, baking soda won't hurt.

Don't risk your expensive espresso machine with baking soda. Also you need the acid for descaling. I prefer Urnex Dezcal. More effective and safer ingredients. //@anonymous: I believe the baking soda will work the same way.
