I can buy the membership as a gift without cancelling my current membership and I have it send a few days before my current membership expires (in September). We shall see if I can use it still for the membership later or it's just going to be a GC by then. I don't think I risk anything.

By anonymous on 02/18/2022, 12:55 AM EST
This could be a deal if someone really wants to go thru all that. I think most don’t know or really care it’s going up since it just auto-renews for those that use it. This is not the first time it’s gone up and don’t think most will notice or mind it increased a bit. Prime shipping alone still makes the membership very competitive for those that order online frequently.

By anonymous on 02/18/2022, 12:46 AM EST
almost 4 of us sharing the membership and buy lot of things. so it doesnt matter even if they increase

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 10:37 PM EST

Amazon Prime (One Year Membership) is not available for you to purchase because you are either a Prime member or you are buying Prime with 1-Click ordering. Please delete this item to continue.

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 10:12 PM EST
How to turn off "auto renewal"? I contacted Amazon. They said that can only be changed from their end.

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 07:51 PM EST
I was told, if you have a paused membership you cannot apply gift membership to it. and the gift membership must be accepted in 2 weeks else it expires/gets refunded.

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 07:49 PM EST
don't forget the 5% cash back for prime members in your number crunching. //@Anonymous: Have been paying for Amazon Prime for 5+ years. Always believed (blindly) it was a deal because I buy a lot from Amazon. This price hike made me run the numbers again. Turns out free shipping on $25 is enough for my orders, and I don't rely on other Amazon services (Prime Video, which is getting worse; or Photos - never trust any cloud storage with "unlimited" capacity... look at Google Photos). Time to end my subscription.

Did not realize membership fee even has a TAX!

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 06:44 PM EST
how long will be the gift valid mine will expire in NOVEMBER

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 06:04 PM EST
I choose "Pause on October 1, 2022" option, not "End on October 1, 2022" Option. Choosing the "End on October 1, 2022" option I think may lose my photo backup on Amazon cloud. I have been the prime member for many years. To save 20 bucks, what a hoop we have to go through!

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 05:34 PM EST
If you spend $4633 a year on Amazon, you'll make it even with prime membership $139 (with 3% rebate difference, 5% for "prime member signature card holder" vs. 2% "citi or wells-fargo card holder").

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 03:14 PM EST
So, I followed the instructions and cancelled my membership.

I will continue to use Prime. I use prime videos and the unlimited photos. The Amazon eco-system works well for me.

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 02:39 PM EST
Prime members pays more to the merchandise with free shipping

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 02:34 PM EST
go to membership setting --> end membership (on the right)

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 02:34 PM EST
Thanks for the reminder. Just chatted with them about the price increase and turning off auto-renew. I didn't see the feature listed unless it's what you get when choosing the "end membership" option. Who do we thank for all the price increases going on? Gas, insurance, related grocery, amazon and other increases? Why people, why?

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 01:32 PM EST
Walmart was the most reliable vendor during early pandemic. Amazon was either out of stock, or price was increased significantly. //@Anonymous: As a matter of fact, it was the opposite! Amazon was the one you couldn't rely on. Most orders got canceled. Unethical price gouging. Super late delivery even with Prime... you name it!
Walmart was the one who helped us during the early stages of the pandemic. //@anonymous: To be fair, you relied on Amazon during pandemic. Only Amazon delivery were fully functional last year. I do not like it, but I understand why.

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 11:58 AM EST
No go even at $100

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 11:45 AM EST
Bye bye Prime!

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 11:11 AM EST
Whoa.... "gift memberships are not eligible for prime offers" This includes the 5% back with my amazon credit card on just about EVERYTHING....

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 10:18 AM EST
I have been Amazon Prime Member for 11 years. Just told them I will quit.
Just no need to use their service anymore. The only two I used are Prime-2-days delivery and Prime videos. When the first one does not work in most cases, and you can access all videos from other resources, it just means nothing at all. Adios.

By anonymous on 02/17/2022, 08:56 AM EST
It’s not $20. It’s 17%. You probably wouldn’t say it’s only $20 more if Subway suddenly changed the song to “$25 dollar footlongs.” //@anonymous: Just $20 a year and everyone went crazy, LOL. You really shouldn't have it if you can't pay $20 extra A YEAR!

How to buy gift membership ?

By anonymous on 02/13/2022, 10:25 PM EST
Costco sucks when it comes to online shopping. //@Anonymous: I love Costco for return policy. But Amazon have5% cash back for prime. //@anonymous: Costco give members cash back, with different percentages but anyway you will get a check by the end of the year. Not sure if for all people, I paid $120 for Costco membership and get a check last month for $132. Amazon won’t give a penny back. //@anonymous: I really like the choice for Amazon but...
1) buying from Amazon has higher risks than buying from Costco in term of the authenticity and quality of merchandizes. I will go amazon for those merchandizes that i cannot find in local stores.
2) One day when we see the only vendor available on this site is "Amazon", then we know we the consumers are in trouble. Amazon can give something to you for cheaper, it can also take that away from you when time comes and when you can rely on it. //@Anonymous: and yet people don't complain membership fees to Costco? I wasted far more money there that could pay for Prime 3 times over.

By anonymous on 02/13/2022, 10:21 PM EST
I canceled my amazon prime when the fee was changed from 99 to 119. No regrets. //@Anonymous: Same here. I’m done with this greedy company. Not sure what all the complaining is about. If you buy a gift subscription for $119 you lock yourself in at the same rate? Now that Amazon doesn’t price match anymore, I think I may be reconsidering my annual membership. Target and Walmart deliver in my area, they can have my business. Too many other options out there now for what Amazon offers (shipping, video, music, etc.) who knows after a year break I may miss them, but that’s what I said about my cable tv when I dropped them 10 years ago… lol

By jasonzhou on 02/13/2022, 03:41 PM EST
Tried, seems Amazon won’t add it to cart.

By anonymous on 02/08/2022, 04:59 PM EST
I recently cancelled my prime membership but still shopped there. Surprisingly the shipping was still very fast and comparable to the prime member shipping speed.

By anonymous on 02/08/2022, 03:54 PM EST
Been trying to break up with them for years but I always stay. Prime Video sucks compared to Netflix and HBOMax. Maybe its finally time?

By anonymous on 02/08/2022, 07:50 AM EST
I believed in the people purchasing power, so the more people cancel their membership the less likely Amazon will make this increase. We all should united to make a stand to Amazon, no more increases, especially their profits are sky high. Just stop sending ppl to space on our expenses. Use your own money for that and save the little ppl some money. //@Anonymous: Sorry to those who think their decision matters. The reality is this. Amazon decided to increase by $20 because the people cancelling will be less than 14% of the original subscribers. They are optimizing their revenue.

I think it still has values but just not this much. I’d subscribe on a monthly basis, but not every month, only when there’s a new show on prime or when I have quite a few things to buy, so essentially I am only paying half or less of the full annual cost

By anonymous on 02/06/2022, 06:51 AM EST
many items are up 30-70% and are 2 or 3X the price locally. Just failed to renew my Prime expiring tomorrow. Others should do the same and not because of the $$ increase. Prime is neither a value proposition or a money-saver. //@Anonymous: Since 2020, I found many items on Amazon are 10-20% more expensive than in local stores, like Walmart, Home Depot or Targets. Search online before you place order on Amazon.

lol. The world is progressing anyway. //@anonymous: I decided to cancel my Amazon prime. It is certainly not because of money. The real reason I don’t like Amazon is that Amazon destroyed so many local jobs in retail industry, but replaced them by cheap warehouse jobs.

Is the price increase for Amazon students?

By anonymous on 02/05/2022, 07:20 PM EST
You’ve really made it obvious what your motivation is here. Don’t be silly. They have no real justification for increasing the price for Prime other than greed. As if $20+ billion in profit was enough. LOL //@anonymous: This seems to be a win-win all around. It allows Amazon to provide better service and deliver a quality service. It draws attention to those who may not be getting value so that they can discontinue it. And it allows competitors an opportunity to compete. Lastly for many of the shareholders (of which I am one) and holders of funds that include Amazon, it was a plus for the share price.

FYI the H1B holders are working legitimately and uplifting US economy, they spend much more than locals also they did not benefit as much as locals in stimulus. They pay and contribute for local‘s social security //@wmouse: I think he meant creating jobs for US citizen rather than foreigners.e.g. h1b holders. By anonymous on 02/05/2022, 12:56 PM EST
how is this even a deal? cancel the membership and save $139 or $119. Next time you buy, place order for $25+ and get free shipping regardless. In fact, buy from walmart instead and just go pickup anytime.

By anonymous on 02/05/2022, 11:55 AM EST
I am not renewing my membership. If we accept this now, no wonder if they keep increasing every year or two.

By anonymous on 02/05/2022, 11:39 AM EST
Just went through my amazon shopping history, spent a little bit more than $1k last year, which means prime member fee/shopping cost is around 10%. And most of the items bought I should be able to get from Costco or Target, which I visit regularly. But shipping is free (not really) and fast, why not? Funny. And what funnier is, items hard to find somewhere else I rarely get second day shipping. I guess they do not have them in my local storage house. Thanks for this increase of member fee, now I am wondering is it really worth it?

By anonymous on 02/05/2022, 10:56 AM EST
People, you should accept the news about Prime membership increase with understanding.
Amazon owner has additional expenses and needs somehow to cover them: "Historic Dutch bridge will be DISMANTLED so Jeff Bezos's newly-built £400m Y721 superyacht with three giant masts can pass through".
Don't be greedy, pay the bill and say thank you to Jeff for such great service creation.

By anonymous on 02/05/2022, 10:44 AM EST
Why peoples still pays for this? Just but more stuff to reach their minimum for free shipping. Look it this way, you getting something you want vs giving them money for something you don't need.

Time to end my subscription.

It doesn't matter how much they are making. The only thing matters to them is how much more they can make.
The only way to limit that is to take away their power. Stop buying from them and buy from alternatives.
They are no longer a good company. //@Anonymous: They are making so much profit and still people have to pay higher and higher prices.

2 day shipping. lol!!! Not since pre-covid. They have a lot of nerve raising the subscription price when they did nothing about price gouging or ensuring timely delivery. //@Anonymous: You guys have to remember it is not just free shipping. it is free 2-day or even next-day shipping. If you don't care about timing, I agree with you, a prime is not really necessary.

By anonymous on 02/04/2022, 02:33 PM EST
Not worth it anymore. Amazon prime video is not worth more than 5.99 / month. As for free shipping, always get 25 dollars worth of stuff. Made sense when it was less than 100. Going to cancel, absolutely not worth the cost.

Totally agree. What those giants do makes me really concern what they want, esp. FB and Google. //@Anonymous: I am not to hate amazon... But just want to spread the wealth and keep my freedom of choice. keep all vendors alive and let them compete for the benefit of consumer. //@Anonymous: Will switch to WALMART+. Going through my shopping history with amazon, seems most of the items bought is not necessary, and for other items, 25+ or 35+ free shipping is enough.

Not such a good deal after they add tax on top of the $119. It takes my total to $131.

By anonymous on 02/04/2022, 01:28 PM EST
I would rather shop at walmart because walmart is creating working positions and paying tax to goverment.

By anonymous on 02/04/2022, 01:18 PM EST
It’s an additional $1.67/month. Y’all need to stop.

bye bye, prime

totally agree. the prices of many things on Amazon are way more expensive than the local store and Walmart //@Anonymous: Same here. I’m done with this greedy company. seems not worth the hassle. gonna have to reset the household and everything.

By anonymous on 02/04/2022, 09:19 AM EST
Good idea, thanks. Amazon also offers discounts for prime, if you’re a student or rely on Medicaid/Medicare. Not sure if those rates will rise too. I’m also beginning to question if Prime is worth it.

By anonymous on 02/04/2022, 01:39 AM EST
As a matter of fact, it was the opposite!

By anonymous on 02/04/2022, 12:21 AM EST
Thank you for the offer. In for two. Have been using Prime for 8+ years and have more than 300 orders per year. Besides Costco, Amazon is the most important vendor of my family.

By anonymous on 02/04/2022, 12:10 AM EST
Free shipping with Prime is not actually free when I found out the items available for free shipping cost higher.
I was looking for some aquarium items one time. Same item from different sellers. One is $10 more than the other and has next day prime free shipping, the other one is cheaper but free shipping won't be available till two weeks later. I do not complain for this but for the cheaper one I can pick it up from local whole food the next day which means Amazon can offer next day free shipping for the cheaper one but choose not to. //@Anonymous: Have been paying for Amazon Prime for 5+ years. can I buy more than one and use consecutive years? //@anonymous: cancel the membership. it is ok to cancel because your membership will last until the date that you have paid. gift of prime does not have an expiration date. if you do not need prime membership anymore, you can exchange it for amazon gift card. set up a calendar reminder on the expiration date of your prime membership, so you can remember to use gift of prime to purchase another year. //@Alexoi: How do you cancel the auto renew? if there's a lower tier prime membership only for free shipping for just $50, I will opt in. I barely use other services from prime

By anonymous on 02/03/2022, 11:06 PM EST
Have used Prime for two years and decided to cancel it asall there services cloud backup n Video etc are mediocre. Since then I have been using $25 free shipping or prefer to buy it from Walmart

How many gift membership can you buy at once?

I wonder how much of this would go to those poor warehouse workers. More likely it will help Bezos finance another luxurious yacht (named Bridge Destroyer II).

walmart is cheaper and returns are just as easy. I have netflix, peacock, HBO, etc. There's nothing worth beyond shipping.
CANCEL this PREPAID SHIPPING and you'll spend less collecting junk.

When I renew with the gift membership, do I have to set up a new account? I'd hate to lose all current settings if I have to switch to a different email. Seems like the gift card has to be sent to a different email address. So a different way to ask is if I can redeem gift card sent to abc@mail.com by def@mail.com

There is a Amazon warehouse in my city, so I always receive my items in 1-2 days with free shipping. I don't see much difference in terms of the speed.
