I was confused on how the $10 credit worked as well. I too got errors when I tried to use the promo code but it turns out, it was already added to the cart when I checked out. I went ahead and paid the full $40 for the card when I checked out. I then got the credit 2 days after I bought the $40 gift card. Hope this helps others.

Worked for me. The gift card doesn't have to be used on Prime Day (which was my initial misconception). The $10 promotional credit can only be used on goods sold by Amazon.

If you try to place the order using your phone you wont see the notice "Congratulations on your Prime Day gift card purchase." It also shows code doesn't work during the checkout. I tried to use a laptop to place the order and the promotion worked!
