Different from traditional HDD, data cannot be recovered from dead SSD. //@anonymous: When it is dead, the biggest problems will not be a dead laptop. You might be in the middle of some important errands, and then you lost everything. //@anonymous: bought applecare, would be actually nice to have a dead macbook within 3 years so i can get a new for free LOL //@Anonymous: 1)App compatibility issue, you have to use Rosetta2 for most software. 2)Unified memory architecture causes extremely excessive rewriting on SSD which is soldered and irreplaceable. //@sza: Don't be the beta testers. There many people who had totally dead M1 Macbook Air and Pros. There are lots of discussions on reddit and other sites. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/m1-macbook-air-wont-power-on.2272304/

Could be a serious issue for SSD life as consumer industry has abandoned reliable/expensive MLC and is phasing out TLC to embrace cheap QLC. I think Apple may purposely did this to accelerate SSD degradation so you will be forced to upgrade much sooner //@anonymous: 1)App compatibility issue, you have to use Rosetta2 for most software. 2)Unified memory architecture causes extremely excessive rewriting on SSD which is soldered and irreplaceable. //@sza: Don't be the beta testers. The issue has been fixed:
macOS Big Sur 11.2.2 prevents MacBook Pro (2019 or later) and MacBook Air (2020 or later) models from incurring damage when they are connected to certain third-party, non-compliant powered USB-C hubs and docks. //@sza: Don't be the beta testers. 8 GB is enough for regular usage and light video editing. //@anonymous: Good price! Is 8GB enough or should go for 16GB?

not really. Just use Rosetta for intel applications. The performance is not too shabby compared to newer intel CPUs.

11.2.3 update fixed the issue with 3rd party usb-c hubs, therefore no more complaints after 4/6 in that macrumors thread. //@sza: Don't be the beta testers. It is horrible to install modules in Apple ml to do ML/DL. for example, still don't know how to install pytorch, don't know how to install hdf5 and so on. Don't buy at this moment.
