My 10 yr old PC works just fine, with much low end specs. It all depends on how well you maintain it. The costlier it is the more careful you are. The screen quality is amazing to look at even though it isn't a retina and it runs plenty fast to code websites and photoshop along with email, word, etc. Was $2200 so that's $220/yr. I'd like to spend $800-$900 for a Dell XPS 13 with the same specs when it on sale. The i5 processor is good enough for a laptop. The difference between i7 and i5 is much smaller than between 16GB and 8GB RAM. The i5 processor+16 GB RAM+512GB SSD combination looks perfect for me.

The quality is good, except some bad designs: the butterfly keyboard is painful to touch, regardless new and old model. the screen is highly reflection, cannot see anything outside of the house.
