Not only is it safe, it is also required by code in many areas these days. //@Anonymous: Great deal. If you have non-GFCI outlet in bathroom, around wet kitchen sink, or where children can accidentally poke things into the outlet...You should replace the non-GFCI with the GFCI one. It can save a life from electrical shock.
