TAYAMA is the brand we use after testing/using almost all brands out there. We use BRITA to filter first. No build up and never had to clean the inside (stainless steel), except before first use. We use it for drinking straight and for tea. We use tap for soup. Lid is removable if you want to clean the outside. Zoji are too complicated and unnecessarily fancy (aka $$$) for a water boiler. If your family don't need hot water constantly, just get a good electric kettle at Costco or wherever.

This one is vacuum insulated. Note the canister is Teflon coated steel and will rust if you scratch it. They also make a stainless steel canister version but the reviews are pretty critical.
I've had this model, the 4L non-VE, and a 3L non-VE. They're great, but can't be cleaned. Just ignore the white buildup, you'll regret it when you scratch the coating and ruin it.

I used this faithfully for years until two years ago when I happened to remove the top cover only to discover a ton of black mold that accumulated over the years. From then on I only use what can be easily cleaned like a fast electric kettle. Why would you spend big money only to drink moldy water :(
