Adding a layer between you and your money is a psychological trick that apps and loot boxes have been abusing for years. When there is an extra layer people are less likely to think how much they are really spending, especially kids, since it's 'just' gold, gems, points, you name it and before you know it you have wasted hundreds of dollars on crap you wouldn't have bought if you would have seen it listed in your native currency.
It is sad that companies would rather resort to such trickery instead of producing quality products, either physical or digital. //@Anonymous: Why add an extra layer? Just go and rent simply with your money, unless there is a benefit. And there is none right now. //@Anonymous: Only if it can rent movies I will buy.
