Tried 17540 for two years and it is not bad at all. Timing is crucial, though. I run a test in New England with half bag grown in late April and the rest half in mid-May. Turned out the latter has >50% drop in germination rate.

Try it once last year when Lowe's has it on sale. Major part is mulch. Doesn't work well.
