I paid closer attention yesterday while I was using it in the car. I don't have the full grasp of how my car stereo uses MP3s (like, does it load an entire song into RAM and play from there, or does it read it straight from the drive), but during use, the thumbnail was warm but not hot. I do believe it gets "hot," however, when you are doing file operations directly onto or off of it. I'd think this is likely normal for USB thumbs, but larger designs probably have a lot more space/insulation for diffusion than these tiny things. //@Anonymous: Is this new version still too hot?

Not sure how long it takes to know with certainty that it gets "too hot," but I have a 128G one of these as well as a 32G. The 32G is in constant use in the car stereo, and it does, indeed, heat up (they both do when I'm transferring files to them from the desktop). I've been using the car one for more than 6mo now, constantly, and it's still working. This is not to say it might not fail at some point, but it's doing fine so far. Just buy two at this price and keep one back-up for storage, not to be "used" all the time.

Seriously, my biggest fear at this juncture is losing them, 'cause they're so. d@mn. tiny!!

Waiting for the 256G models to drop in price a little before moving up to that for music library service.. ;')
