Still using my iPhone 6; even after 5 years of constant use it works like a champ with zero issues, and the battery still holds several hours of juice in it with a single charge. Honestly, I’d rather save my $1000 for buying something else instead of buying camophones!

If I trade in my iPhone 8+ for an XS Max and select the 24 monthly installment payments option, does that mean I will own the XS Max after 24 payments of $4.17/month? I currently own my iPhone 8+ and am not interested in the 18 month lease option.

Of course not. The xs max is about $1100/24 ~= $45.83/month for 24 months. ONLY IF you trade in a eligible phone (e.g. you 8+), you will get $750/18 ~= $41.67/months for 18 months. If you do so, during that 18 months you pay $45.83 - $41.67 ~= $4.17/month for the phone.
