yes, you can put an sd card in it but several features like smart detection (people, animals, packages) and whether it displays a still image or short few sec clip depend on paying the $20 a year for Cam+. I love these cameras and I have several that I pay for and others that I don't. I think as the cameras get newer V4+ then you need CAM+ to use them properly. The V3 can work just fine with an SD card if you don't care about smart detection type stuff and full video from the notification.

i had a Subway giftcard as present last year, and went to 3 places and their machines weren't able to read the card ... and finally at the last place, after trying a few times, it worked.
