8G RAM kill the deal, Any deal with 16G RAM at least?
Anonymous
I love Macbook Pro for their performance and above all the reliability. I still have an MBP working flawlessly since 2012 (had to change battery once). My gripe with the latest MBPs are Apple's strategy of soldering RAM and SSD to the motherboard thus making upgrades impossible. I understand this is a way to make more money upfront, but leads to customer dissatisfaction.

Apple no longer sells to the low income market. Not surprising to hear people complain that they can't afford it. But if you can afford it, it's an incredible value.

Ram is so cheap these days but still Apple sells a premium price laptop with only 8GB. And that is suppose to be a deal.

Now, as you know, apple chips are not getting much better, partly because of lack of good engineers and the slow improvement over the 3/4nm node. So... getting M1 pro instead may be a better idea.
Anonymous
Previous gen M1 processors are a better value and should be more than sufficient for 70-80% of all users. If anything, Apple has bad marketing. No professional user is going to buy the MB with low specs, and no average user is going to spend $1.2K+ on it either. They should have significantly lowered the price, or not have an option with 8GB RAM/256GB storage.

1), M1 is super fast with no heat. 2), Mac is very efficient in using memory. I am a programmer converted from PC to MAC ~ 10 years ago, never look back. Of course, I bought a MacBook Pro, but I got a M1 MacBook Air for my son, he is very happy about it.

Ram doesn’t make the computers run faster. It makes you open more programs at once. The cpu clock makes the computer runs faster. ( i7 12700 has 5ghz clock, it makes the computer run faster than i5 cpu) You need to understand the basic functions first. //@anonymous: Ram is ram, built-in make it faster but that doesn’t make it larger //@anonymous: With M processors RAM is IN the M2 processor. Not entirely true. When you run out of ram, which is relatively easy to do with only 8gb,the computer is forced to use swap space which is basically your ssd drive. Swapping memory pages in and out of disk is slow. I'd much rather have a slightly slower cpu with more memory. //@anonymous: Ram doesn’t make the computers run faster. Your computer RAM is essentially short term memory where data is stored as the processor needs it. This isn't to be confused with long-term data that's stored on your hard drive, which stays there even when your computer is turned off.(info wouldn’t stay the your ram, the temporally memory pages are always on your SSD.) //@anonymous: Not entirely true. If 256G was not a single module like M1 Air, this is a great choice, but since it is not, go either m1 air or m1 pro, depending on your needs. I got both, one for my daughter and one for me, and yes, I tried M2 256G and M2 512G, but the former is slow, the latter is too expensive compared to its capability.
