it can, but you need to soft meat in room temp for a while, till you can manually cut a piece. Can not cut a rock hard frozen meat. That would break gears.

Had two of these in the past years. Two major issues. 1) The letters on the buttons wore out soon at regular use at the first unit. 2) The second one stops functioning after a clean up. Contact customer support. Told to pay both way shipping for a warranty repair. I dumped it in trash bin.
