You almost have to subscribe to their EZ print refresh service for this printer as it makes more sense from the cost perspective, although for occasional prints it is not bad at all ($2.50 per month for 40 pages).

Bought this three yes back for 19.99 and never paid anything extra for ink. Ink lasts about 5 yr for avg printing

Buy generic ink cartridges (with new chips) - many are cheap but work fairly well.

Ink is nothing more than a plastic box with a sponger inside and a chip outside. I refilled it for 12 years, until the chip eventually burn. A group of bottles of ink costs you 15 dollar (black and 3 other colors) and can survive for 3-5 years
