Keep in mind the CO sensor has a shelf live, usually 7-10 years. When you buy it, check the manufacture date.

If I recall correctly, they only degrade over time as they're being used. When their lifespan is over, it will play sounds and flash lights to indicate this. I do not believe they degrade while they are unpowered and sitting on a shelf. Is that correct? //@anonymous: Keep in mind the post below does not contain facts. //@anonymous: Keep in mind the CO sensor has a shelf live, usually 7-10 years. That is NOT correct. Sensors like these have radiative materials ( tiny tiny amount) hence have a life span independent from rest of the device. Battery activates the circuits but the sensor is "active" once they leave the factory. Just check reviews of such devices on Amazon and you will see plenty complaints on sellers who sell NOS (new-old-stock) items. //@Anonymous: If I recall correctly, they only degrade over time as they're being used.
