If you're paying $200 in total. $100 on giftcard and $100 on red card. They both save you 5%. Not a total of 10%. So Yes this deal is pointless for redcard members. But a deal for others //@Anonymous: Is it 10% off in total if check out using Target red card?

You missed the point. You can use your red card to buy a gift card. Here there is 5% promo, and red card gives you 5% discount. It is a total of 10% discount. There is no sales tax on gift card purchases. you pay taxes when you buy merchandise with the gift card.
