All intelligent fellows. This phone is $125 without contract. Samsung s3 is 150 with 2 year contract. It means you need to pay data plan ($30 * 24 = $720)

upstairs, you're right. But, if you want to activate any kind of smartphone, it is REQUIRED to have a data plan. That's why it's exactly the same in that they both need mandatory data plan. Of course, if you do not have a contract, you can terminate a subscription anytime though.

You could buy a prepaid card and call it good.

Can you use AT&T GoPhone sims with this? I don't need data and I only need to make occasional calls.

AT&T go phone sim card should be fine, it is unlocked. But if you just want to use it to call, why smart phone?

So that I don't need to carry a separate PDA. I am mostly in WiFi zones, so a $20-$30 data plan is not worth it for me. But I would like good app support while I am not at my desk. Currently, I use iPod Touch + pre-paid phone.
