SSDs are too expensive right now. It should be the same technology as the USB flash drives. Now a 16G usb flash is less than 30 dollars, then why should an 80G ssd costs more than $150.

How fast your $30 16GB flash drive can read and write?
Why a 3.5L Cammy V6 is half the price of a 3.0L BMW 335?

The IO speed of the usb drive is limited by the usb port not by the drive itself

In fact, falsh drive is slower than USD hard drive. So I can not agree USB flash drive is limited by usb port.

Just tell us how fast your 16GB flash drive can read and write! Is it even clos to the USB IO limit?

SSD is trash. Expensive but useless.

The limited lifespan of SSD is the reason that it's not mass produced to replace spindle HD yet. Not mass production no cheaper price. So the root cause is still the technology is not quite ready yet. If the technology is sound, like LCD panels, it'd wipe older stuff off the landscape in no time.

Traffic is useful to me, if any accident or heavy traffic, GPS will rerout your rout to avoid traffic.

SSD is not using the same chips used in usb sticks. SSD is better for random read and write, and usb stick is better for large cluster read and write.

Can your BMW do 90m/h without steeping on gas pedal?
Clearly Cammy is better, self propelled.

SSD is usually based on Single Level Cell so it can have much faster speed than Multi Level Cell which is adapted to USB memory stick. Some USB memory sticks are based on SLC but it is still too expensive. Also USB memory stick speed are limited because they have usb controllers. SSD drives have SATA or PATA interface controller so they are usually faster than platter. It takes time to reach the heads to a special area of platter. It is called seek time. Usually It takes 10ms among drives. But SSD take 0.1ms or less. Because the heads move and search disk by physically. By the way, SSD addressing find data logical place. As you guys know well, RAM is much faster than any HDDs.

most SSDs are still using MLC including this X18-M. The reason that SSD is faster than flash drive is because SSD uses multi-channel to read and write while flash drive generally uses one channel. for example, this x18-m uses 10-channels to access the data.
